Parish Plan
A Parish Plan is a forum for the community to communicate its concerns and its aspirations for the future of their village. This is achieved through public consultation, which highlights the issues that concern the ‘villagers’ and some of the issues that emerge come through on a narrow margin. This process gives the issues credibility, as they do not originate from distant experts imposing universal policies on very local and individual situations.
In 2002, Newbald has undertook a series of consultation exercises involving a cross section of the community to find the answers to three questions:
(1) What did they like about Newbald?
(2) What did they dislike about Newbald?
(3) What were their aspirations for Newbald?
A number of common threads were identified which in turn gave the focus for greater consultation. A questionnaire was prepared and delivered to each of the 400 households within the Newbald Parish. 177 Householders returned the forms; these were analysed with the results forming the basis for the Parish Plan.
